No. Sole traders without a VAT registration can issue invoices using just their name and address. 3docs marks VAT optional and only displays the field when you fill it in.
Are 3docs invoices HMRC-compliant?
Yes. Every invoice includes the legally required fields for UK businesses: a unique invoice number, your trading name and address, the client's details, a description of the work, the date, the amount, and VAT (if applicable).
What happens after my 3 free invoices?
You can pay £3 to send one more, or upgrade to Pro (£9/month) for unlimited invoices, saved clients and recurring billing. Your free invoices are yours forever — we don't pull them.
Can I save my clients and bank details?
On Free, we don't store them — your data clears when you close the tab. Pay-as-you-go saves up to 5 clients; Pro saves unlimited clients, your bank details, and your invoice number sequence.
Is my data safe and GDPR-compliant?
Your invoice data is encrypted at rest and in transit, hosted in the UK, and we never share it with third parties. You can export or delete everything in two clicks from your settings.
Can I add VAT, late fees or discounts?
Yes. Each line item supports a VAT rate (0%, 5%, 20% or custom). You can add a flat discount, a percentage discount, and a late-payment clause that meets UK Late Payment of Commercial Debts regulations.
