Frequently asked questions

Is the free plan really free? Do I need a credit card?

Yes — completely free, no credit card required. You can create and download three invoices as PDFs without entering any payment details. We will not ask for card details unless you choose to upgrade.

What happens after my 3 free invoices?

You can pay £3 to send one more invoice (pay-as-you-go credit), or upgrade to Pro for £9/month and get unlimited invoices, saved clients, and automatic reminders. Your existing invoices stay in your account — we never delete or lock them.

What's the difference between Pay-as-you-go and Pro?

Pay-as-you-go is best if you send fewer than 3–4 invoices a month — at £3 per send, it stays cheaper than Pro below that threshold. Pro is better value above that, and also includes features that PAYG does not: custom brand colours, custom invoice numbers, recurring invoices, automatic overdue reminders, and CSV export for your accountant.

Can I cancel Pro at any time?

Yes. Cancel any time from your billing settings — no penalty, no notice period. Your Pro access continues until the end of the billing period you have already paid for.

Do you offer annual pricing?

Yes. Pro is available annually for £79/year — the equivalent of £6.58/month, saving you 27% versus monthly billing.

Are 3docs invoices HMRC-compliant?

Yes. Every invoice includes all legally required fields for UK sole traders and limited companies: a unique sequential invoice number, your name and address, the client's details, a description of goods or services, the invoice date, amount, and VAT breakdown if applicable. Your UTR and National Insurance number are not required on invoices.

Can I get a receipt for my Pro subscription?

Yes. Receipts and billing history are available from your billing settings. These can be used as evidence of a business expense on your Self Assessment return.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) via Stripe. Apple Pay and Google Pay are also supported.
